McWil Courtwall Women's Austrian Open Squash Championship, Vienna, Austria (20/12/2009)

Dipika Pallikal bows out in the semi-finals

Third-seeded Victoria Lust of England defeated India’s Dipika Pallikal, the top seed, in the semifinals and eventually went on to win the title in the $4,000 McWil Courtwall Austrian women’s squash open, a WISPA event in Vienna.

Even though Dipika fought all the way and perhaps played one of the longest matches (19-21)  in the first game and made it 2-2. But in the last match she lost 11-6.

The top seeded Indian defeated Sandra Polak of Austria 11-4, 11-1, 11-5 in the first match.

In the quarterfinals, Dipika beat the German girl Sina Wall 12-10, 11-4, 12-10 to set up a semifinal clash with third seeded Victoria Lust of England.

Ghosal loses in quarters  of the Squash Santiago Open (13/11/2009)

Unseeded Saurav Ghosal secured surprise places in the men's quarter-finals of the Squash Santiago Open after beating seventh seed Tom Richards and sixth seed Miguel Angel Rodriguez, respectively, in the opening round of the $41,000 4-star PSA World Tour event at Shopping Center Area Central in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, but he lost in the quarters to Adrian Grant of England.

Nicol David & Nick Matthew Strike Gold in World Games Squash Championships.. (Chinese Taipei, 24th july 2009.)

Favourites Nick Matthew and Nicol David secured the gold medals in the World Games Squash championships after straight games victories in the men's and women's finals, respectively, at the Chung Cheng Martial Arts Stadium in the Chinese Taipei city of Kaohsiung.

The finals, both of which featured the events' top two seeds, brought to a climax the Squash competition in the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games - the eighth edition of the multi-sport event, staged under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which featured over 4,000 athletes competing in more than 30 sports not currently on the programme of the Olympic Games.

NSC Squash Series No6, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

 

Squash ace Joshna Chinappa won the third WISPA title of her career when she defeated home favourite Low Wee Wern in the final of the $ 16,000 NSC series event on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur.
 
In an exciting match that went the full distance, the Indian clawed back from two games down to win on extra points 6-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 17-15. A trainee of the Indian Squash Academy (erstwhile ICL academy), Chennai, Joshna, currently ranked 41 in the world, was seeded fourth in this tournament. In her earlier rounds she defeated Miranda Ranieri (Can) 3-0 and then accounted for second seeded Sharon Wee of Malaysia in a marathon session in the semifinals. Joshna won that 11-6, 8-11, 14-16, 11-8, 11-8. In the other half, Low had defeated the top seed Delia Arnold of Malaysia to move to the title round. The Indian’s earlier two successes too were in Malaysia.
 
Jubilant over her victory, Joshna, in a message said: “It was a tough match and I had to play well to come back from two games down. I feel I am mentally fitter and stronger now. On a personal note I would like to thank my coaches at ISA, the Mittal Trust, the boys and girls who train with me at the academy and my parents for all their support.”

Gaurav Nandrajog the 6th seeded lost 1-3 to 3rd seeded Luca Mastrostefano (Ita) in PSA Festina Open at the Sporting Club Milano in Basiglio, Milan, Italy.

In the first round he won against unseeded Marco Vercesi of Italy very easily 11/5, 11/3, 11/7 in 22 minutes.


But in the quarters he lost to Luca Mastrostefano after being 1-1.  But the Italian had upper hand in the other 2 games thus winning the game by 11/3, 7/11, 11/7, 11/8.

Both Dipika & Joshna lost in the qualifying finals of the 25000 $ Cannon Kirk IRISH OPEN being played at Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in Dublin. 

While in the 1st round Dipika & Joshna beat their counter part Kerri Lancaster (IRL) and Carrie Hastings (ENG) very easily by 3-0.   

But in the qualifying finals Dipika gave tough time to Manuela Manetta of Italy by taking her to 5 sets before losing 2-3.  Joshna lost to Lauren Siddall of England very easily 3-0.

EUROPEAN SQUASH NEWS :

Jagtap & Hodgson Win Welsh Junior Open Titles 

India's Aditya Jagtap and Robyn Hodgson, from Scotland, prevailed in tough U19 finals in the Kane Mailing Welsh Junior Open Squash Championships in Cardiff to celebrate their first successes on the European Squash Federation Junior Circuit.

Jagtap was top seed in the men's event - but the 16-year-old from Mumbai, now based at Millfield School in England, had to fight from two games down in the final to overcome second-seeded Englishman Anthony Graham 3-11, 8-11, 11-6, 13-11, 12-10.

The women's final also went to five games - but this time the favourite was unable to press home her advantage.  Sarah Barnes, the top seed from France, recovered from two games down to draw level - but 18-year-old Hodgson, the No2 seed, was on top throughout the decider, ultimately winning 16-14, 11-4, 8-11, 10-12, 11-2.

Pakistan qualifier Waqar Mehboob claimed the biggest scalp in the men's $10,000 PSA Tour event.  The 17-year-old from Peshawar defeated Ritwik Bhattacharya, the third seed from India ranked more than 50 places higher in the world, 11-5, 14-16, 11-7, 11-7.

It was third time lucky for the organisers of the Women's Internationaux de Creteil when home town star Camille Serme upset second seed Joshna Chinappa in straight games to provide local interest in the final of the $12,000 WISPA World Tour squash event in its third year at Centre Marie Therese Eyquem in Creteil, in the outskirts of the French capital Paris, for the first time. 

Top seeded Italian Manuela Manetta, the 2007 champion was taken the full distance by Indian star Dipika Pallikal before beating the 17-year-old fifth seed 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 13-11.

Saurav Ghosal of India lost in the Qualifying round of Tournament of Champions being played at grand central terminus, new york to egypt ’s Yaseer El Halaby.  Saurav was 1-2 down but fought bravely in the 4th game and won 11-9.  But in the decider he lost very easily to Yaseer.

Joshna loses in finals: Liberty Bell Open, USA, Jan 2009.

Vanessa Atkinson kicked off her 2009 campaign in great style by winning the Women's Liberty Bell Open in the USA . 

The top seed beat fourth seed Joshna Chinappa in the final of the $11,000 WISPA World Tour squash event at Berwyn Squash & Fitness Club in Berwyn, Philadelphia . 

Atkinson, a former World Open champion and ten times winner of the Dutch national title, is celebrating the 21st Tour title - but the first since March 2006.

Joshna loses in Qualifing round: Harrow Greenwich Squash Open: (CT, USA : Jan 2009)

Joshna loses in qualifying round to sixth seed Samantha of Mexico.  Joshna only troubled her Mexican counterpart in the second game when she beat her easily 11-6, but it was straight win in the next to games for Samantha.
