DRAWS & SEEDINGS

DRAW OF 16 & 32 PLAYERS

The World Squash bodies consisting of WSF(World Squash Federation), WISPA(Womens International Squash players Association) and PSA(Professional Squash Association) follow the same rules whey they are deciding to make a draw for the any tournament played in the world.  The seeding of the players are also done likewise.

PSA and WISPA  are seeded by using the latest world ranking list prior to entries closing and then placing the entries in their ranking order.

The WSF utilises seeding panels for all its team and individual junior and senior events. Each features specialist input via representation from each of the five WSF regions. Seeds, and their position are decided by the previous records of the player, his or her present form and by the organisers of a competition. In other than professional events it should be carried out by persons who have knowledge of the strengths of various players.

It is recommended that at least 3 persons should be on a seeding committee so that any disagreement can be subject to a vote.

The only seeds that automatically get a fixed place in the draw are the Number 1 and Number 2 seeds. These always go in the top slot (No. 1 seed) and the bottom slot (No. 2 seed). ALL OTHER SEEDS GO IN A DRAW. There are normally draws for the positions of the 3/4th seeds, a separate draw for the 5/8th seeds and a separate draw for the 9/16th seeds.

When the seeds have been placed in their slots and any byes given to them (see Byes below) then the remainder of the players are placed in a draw.

The first player drawn goes in the uppermost available slot, the next drawn the next available slot and so on. If there are any byes that have not been allocated to seeded players then these go in the draw. If any bye is drawn against another bye then the last drawn is redrawn.

Withdrawals:

Withdrawals of seeded players are the bane of Tournament Directors and it is sometimes difficult to decide what to do. The following is recommended but the Tournament Officials have the last say.

If two or more of the top 8 seeds, at least one of whom must be seeded 1-4, withdraw more than 48 hours prior to the start of the Tournament, THE DRAW MUST BE RE-MADE.

In the event of any of the top 8 seeds withdrawing where a redraw is not required lower seeds move up accordingly.

Any vacant slots left should become byes. If there are previous byes there are obviously no players to fill the slot. It is not recommended that players who have not formally entered are allowed to fill the vacant slots as this will cause protests. Where there is a qualification event that has not commenced then seeds are moved up in order to take the slots as they occur. The Draw stands final 48 hours prior to the start of the Tournament.

If the number of players is less than the draw size then byes will be given in the first round (not the second round).

The number of byes in the draw is the size of the draw less the number of players. Byes will be distributed evenly amongst the top and bottom halves of the draw.

If the number of byes is odd then the larger number will be put in the bottom half. Seeded players will be the first to be given byes in seeded order i.e. if there needs to be 3 byes Seeds Nos 1-3 get them.
