North Bombay v/s South Bombay Squash League 3rd Leg (25/04/2004)

 

South Mumbai take 2-1 lead 

South Mumbai took a 2-1 lead over their counterparts from North Mumbai, winning the third leg of the South Mumbai versus North Mumbai Squash League, a initiative of the Squash Racquets Association of Maharashtra, played at the Bombay Gymkhana on Sunday.

Vaibhav Gupta, Manek Mathur and Cyrus Vakil gave South Mumbai a 3-0 lead, winning their matches against Karan Bhatty, Mohammed Merchant and Cyrus Appoo respectively, before Anurag Gill and junior Mahesh Mangaonkar brought North Mumbai back into the match with victories over Rushabh Vora and Adesh Bhansali. However, four walkovers in South’s favour, put paid to North Mumbai’s aspirations, who put on brave rearguard action through Samir Mistry and Sahil A, who scored over Adesh Bhansali and Riyan Bhatia respectively.

North Bombay v/s South Bombay Squash League 2nd Leg (28/3/2004)

 

North, South in 5-5 tie

Junior players held North Mumbai in good stead as they won their matches against their counterparts from South Mumbai to ensure shared honours in the second leg of the Squash Racquets Association of Maharashtra’s North Mumbai versus South Mumbai League, which was ended in a 5-5 tie at the Juhu Vile Parle Club on Sunday, April 11. 

While Chotrani extended his dominance over Sahil Vora to give North Mumbai a winning start, South Mumbai’s Vaibhav Gupta, Sadiq Madraswala and Cyrus Vakil won their matches to give their team a runaway 3-1 lead, before the North Mumbai juniors got into the act and restored parity.

The next fixture in on April 25 at the Bombay Gymkhana at 10.00 am  and all players desirous of playing in it should register with South Mumbai AI Singh  for South Mumbai and Avinash Bhavnani for North Mumbai before April 20.

North Bombay v/s South Bombay Squash League 1st Leg (28/3/2004)

  

The first leg of North Bombay v/s South Bombay Squash League got underway at the Cricket Club of India today. Envisaged as a platform to provide competition exposure to Squash players on a regular basis, the tournament consists of six fortnightly fixtures to be played every alternate Sunday at different venues each time. A team of eleven players from South Bombay clubs- Cricket Club of India, Bombay Gymkhana and Wellington Club plays against a similar team from clubs in North Bombay- Otters Club, Khar Gymkhana and Juhu Gymkhana. These clubs are the hosts for each leg of the event, though players not belonging to them can also participate.

The teams consist of 2 players each from Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-19 and Open categories, and one from Under-17. The match format is best of five, but with 9 point point-a-rally scoring.

With most of the players from North Bombay busy with Final Exams, today was an easy Sunday for South Bombay. They beat North 9-2. Amay Merchant (South) played superbly to beat Rahul D’Cunha (North), an established Under-13 player, playing an age group higher than his actual. Samir Mistry (North) almost shocked Caran Arora (South) before losing 2-3. The match results were-
