Vikas Jangra, Ankita Sharma lift titles

It was entertaining squash at its explosive best and the end of two gruelling finals, one going to four games an one the whole distance, Vikas Jangra and Ankita Sharma emerged the men’s and women’s champions respectively in the JVPG-GVK 2nd Brave Heart Ashok Kamte Squash Classic, 2010, played at the squash courts of the Juhu Vileparle Gymkhana. 

Vikas Jangra the former Services Champion, lost the first set tie break 14-16 against British Junior Open winner Mahesh Mangaonkar, before showing tremendous reserves of stamina, combined with a fine combination of shots to win the next three games 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 to bag the winner's purse of Rs. 8,000. 

The women’s open final was the best encounter of the day, pitting youth v/s experience. The 16-year-old Ankita Sharma, recovering from a mild bout of food poisoning, lost the first set 8-11 against the more experienced former junior national squash champion Deepali Anvekar-Parikh, but bounced back to win the second game tie-breaker 14-12 and the third 11-9. However, not one to give up easily, Deepali who had back problem, stayed in the match by winning the fourth game 11-8 before Ankita played some excellent shots to win the decider 11-8, the final scores reading 8-11, 14-12, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8. Ankita took home a purse of Rs 7,000/-. 

The Doubles Open affair was a very lenghty one. Vikram Malhotra was paired with his Trinity College counterpart Saahil Vora. The three games went over 2 hours 10 minutes before Vikram and Sahil won by 2-1 beating Mahesh Mangoakar and Vikas Jhangra.
