KHAR GYMKHANA - ISP 1ST MUMBAI OPEN DOUBLE SQUASH (19/11/2003)
Young old duo raise doubles to dizzy heights
Doubles squash is fun at the best of times but when the top players play it becomes doubly so. The tactics become intriguing because four can play at a game. Thus it was at the Khar Gymkhana when two national champs of different ages won the title at the Khar Gymkhana - ISP
organized First Mumbai Open doubles.
Manish Chotrani has been the senior champ. Vikram Malhotra ruled the roost at under-15 level. Both combined to beat the CCI pair of Sahil and Rushabh Vora to win 15-12, 10-15, 15-7, 15-12.
The marathon match tested the players physical as well as mental resources. After the first two games were shared the third game saw the CCI pair slip a little and the Khar Gymkhana duo
capitalized by finishing of the game quickly. The fourth game had Manish and Vikram trailing throughout but they hung on tenaciously and managed to level the score at 12 points each with some great retrieving and excellent stroke play. Here on, it was a battle of nerves and the Khar Gymkhana duo managed to ward of the spirited effort o f the CCI pair and wrapped up the match 15-12.
The champs took home Rs. 20,000 and beautiful crystal trophies while the runners up received Rs. 12,000 and crystal trophies too.

MID-DAY JUNIOR SQUASH CIRCUIT 3RD LEG, KHAR GYMKHANA, MUMBAI (24/10/2003)
Form book respected at the Mid-Day final leg
The form book was vindicated in the third and final leg of the Mid-Day Junior Squash League which concluded at the Khar Gymkhana. There could have been an upset in the boys under-11 category. But the National champion and top seed Mahesh Mangaonkar wore down the challenge of second seed Abhishek Pradhan in five games. Mangaonkar showed tremendous maturity for a player so young as he emerged the stronger of the two in the decider, winning it 17-15. Though he and Pradhan tallied six points after the three rounds, Mangaonkar was declared the over champion by virtue of this victory.
In the boys under-19, National champion and top seed Vikas Jangra underlined his supremacy, beating second seed Anurag Gill. He also claimed the overall title with nine points. The under-17 and under-15 champs Sandeep Jangra and Vikram Malhotra did likewise. Sandeep dropped a game to Manek Mathur before winning in four, while Malhotra squashed Naishad Lalwani's aspirations with a fluent straight-games victory.
The overall winners in each age group were richer by Rs 5,000 while the runners-up took home Rs 2,500.
