DELHI JUNIOR SQUASH TOURNAMENT (21/9/2002)

Sandhus on top- Harinder loses in Finals, Maninder beats Ravi.

Maninder Sandu fulfilled his long standing ambition today by scoring his first win against Ravi Dixit (DSM) in the Under-13 Final today. While Maninder played a better length and searching drops virtually outclassing Ravi, he lost the first game owing to unforced errors 11-15. Advised to check his errors, Maninder bounced back in the second game- 17-15. Having got the correct game-plan of simply moving Ravi on the length of the court rather than trying anything risky, Maninder controlled the game from here on. He won comfortably - 15-8, 15-8 to claim his first tile outside Chandigarh.
On the other hand, Harinder found the task of playing four matches in a day too daunting. Nevertheless, he made a good start by winning the Under-15 Semi against Farman Khan (DSM) 15-6, 15-8, 15-13, and then the Under-17 Semi against Naresh Kumar (DSM)- 15-7, 15-11, 15-10. But playing matches without enough recovery time took its toll when he lost to Naresh in the Under-15 Final despite a good battle- 13-15, 12-15, 15-13, 15-11, 17-14. Harinder did have a chance in the fifth game while leading 13-10, but instead of trying to finish the rallies, he prolonged them, and failed to score the two points for the title. Imran Khan just walked through to the title with Harinder totally exhausted- 15-11, 15-6, 15-6. Winners : Boys U-11: Ravi Dixit (DSM), Boys U-13 : Maninder Sandhu beat Ravi Dixit (DSM) ;Boys U-15 :Naresh Kumar (DSM) bt Harinder Sandhu; Boys U-17 : Imran Khan (DSM) Girls Under-11- Moyna Agarwal;Under-13: Aakriti Sehgal;Under-15 : AAakriti Sehgal.
