Jahangir
Khan toast of the Millennium
The gurus of squash gathered at Karachi in March to felicitate
Jahangir Khan, who was adjudged PIA's Sportsman of the Millennium
award. Top sportsmen from around the world flew in to honour
Jahangir. The father of the modern game, Hashim Khan, flew in from
Denver, Hashim's brother Azim and former world champion Ross Norman
from London, Chris Dittmar from Adelaide, Rahmat Khan, Jahangir's
cousin and his former coach, from Mumbai, Pakistani sports icons
Qamar Zaman, a former British Open champion, Jahangir's father
Roshan, cricketers Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar
Younis and Zaheer Abbas, were also there to pay their to tribute.
Following are some of the tributes paid to the living legend:
Hashim
Khan: He (Jahangir) is the best in the world. The only playerto win the
British Open ten times.
Geoff
Hunt:
Jahangir
is the greatest thing that
has happened
to sport in Pakistan and a great sportsman to emulate.

Chris
Dittmar: He had the highest level of skill and a work ethic that took our
sport to a new level of discipline. I lost to him a lot but it was a
pleasure in a way because I played against the best.
Ross
Norman: The one time I did beat him was an experience you would remember
for the rest of your life. With my fellow professionals we would sit
around and discuss how to beat this guy and we didn't come up with
any answers. I was the lucky one.
Rahmat
Khan: He had it all in his mind - honesty, will and sheer hard work. At
the end of a training session when I asked him if that was enough he
always wanted to
do more.

'Test' series:18-6-2000
Lamb's club in London saw the first of a series of Great Britain v
Rest of the World Test matches. Illness and injury deprived the rest
of the world of Jonathon Power and Sarah Fitz-Gerald, so some of
Dunlop's rather more British retained players competed for the
'away' team. The same players competed at Bristol in the second
match, while match 3 saw a change in personnel and format (with
Tania Bailey 'defecting' to the RoW team!). The series concluded in
Milan on Sun 18th, with the RoW team scoring a 3-0 win over Europe.
