A Unique Barter
It's a unique barter conceived by Khalid Ansari, the dynamic president of the Squash Rackets Association of Maharashtra. Under the system promoted by Petra Foundation, Kuala Lumpur and Mid-Day, Malaysia's young cricketers will train at the Elf-Vengsarkar Cricket Academy and play matches in Mumbai. In return, the city's junior squash players will be hosted the Persutan Squash Malaysia to train under their qualified coaches. The 15-member Malaysian cricket team came in December and won a few matches.HRH Tunku Imran of Malaysia (President Emeritus of World Squash Federation) came with the team and got VIP treatment in the city. He is no doubt a visionary dreaming of Malaysia being part of cricket's mainstream in 20 years’ time. Their success in squash has been more phenomenal having their juniors having conquered the world. The city's junior squash players can look forward to training under reputed coach K.H.Ong at the Lakeside Club in Subang Jaya May-June 2000.

     Abdul Sheikh with the Professionals

Coaches have come and gone in the Mecca of Indian squash, Mumbai, but no one has left such a lasting impression than Abdul Shaikh, the badminton-cum-squash coach from Vancouver. His methods were easily understood by one and all. The city's professionals were high on confidence after a 10-day extensive programme under Shaikh and were awarded the Level I certificate of coaching. Shaikh had flown down specially for the purpose. The programme, organised jointly by the Squash Racquets Association of Maharashtra (SRAM) and the Indian Squash Professional (ISP) and sponsored by Air-India, was conducted at the Otters Club and the Cricket Club of India. The professionals who successfully completed

ISP Website gets thicker
We are proud to announce the launching of an even more comprehensive website than our initial one. It's called the www.ispsquash.com. The inauguration was done by Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic). Mr S.P.S.Yadav. The site which contains 347 main pages and 199 photographs, is a virtual encyclopedia of Indian squash will be updated every week. Among the features of the site are information on world federations, a census of squash courts in India, addresses and telephone numbers of over a thousand squash players in India, upcoming world tournaments, national winners, tips for beginners, squash drills, draws and seeding of tournaments and world squash news. A labour of love of ISP's founder and visionary Mahendra Agarwal, one hopes squash fans will not only visit the site but interact and make it a lively one. So what if India lags behind in the world ladder of squash at least it not lagging behind in the information side of the sport with the ISP site throwing the gauntlet down for others to pick up and further enrich the sport in the new millennium.
