MAHARASHTRA JUNIOR SQUASH RANKINGS

OBJECTIVE : TO RANK ALL JUNIOR SQUASH PLAYERS IN MAHARASHTRA   

1)      To aid tournament organizers with the seedings

2)      To aid the SRAM to select teams for the Inter State Championships

3)      To aid the National Federation to form teams representing the country

4)      To develop a transparent criteria which encourages players to work harder and progress

5)      To provide an environment where junior players have the opportunity to play several matches under pressure on a regular basis 

To kickstart the process an initial ranking is being put forward by the SRAM on

1 May 2007 which will serve as a starting point for the process. This ranking is broadly based on the results over the last one year ( domestic and international ) as also the State teams that represented Maharashtra at the last Junior Nationals in Kolkata 2006. Some subjectivity has also been applied. The rules for these ranking will evolve gradually and immediately after the Junior Nationals of 2007 these rankings will be operational on a monthly basis. The Rankings will be operational for the period 1 Feb  to 31 Jan of the following year.( so as to include the British Open ) to determine the Top players of the year in each category. 

Tournaments are categorized as follows : 

1. Indian Nationals ( Gold )
2. Western India / Indian Junior Open/Maharashtra State/Otters/Little Masters ( SS )
3. Northern India, Central India Open, Inter School ( GP )
4. Southern India, Eastern India, Jaipur Open, Karnataka Open, AP Open, Matunga Gym ,  DDA Open, Delhi Open, Other Tournaments ( JO )

International

1. British Open ( Gold )
2. European Tournaments ( SS )
3. European Tournaments, Milo All Star, Hong Kong Open ( GP )
4. European Tournaments , Singapore Open( JO )

Calculation of points After each tournament, points will be awarded to players depending on the draw size and the status (Junior Open, Grand Prix, Super Series or Gold Event). Points will be included in the ranking calculation when the next monthly update is done.

All juniors -  who have participated in a tournament will be included in the SRAM Junior Ranking list in the relevant age group. There are five age groups for boys : U 11, U13, U15, U17 and U19. and three age groups for girls : U13, U15, U19. To begin with rankings will be made only for 4 age groups i.e. Boys U 15, U19 and Girls U15, U19. Gradually the other categories will also be introduced.

A player's average is calculated on a rolling 12 month basis. The ranking list is updated monthly and is based on the total number of points accumulated per player in these events in the previous 12 months, divided by six. If a player has played more than 6 events in the previous 12 months, the 6 best results will be divided to obtain the average.

When a player has played in two age categories and moves to the higher age category following a birthday, 50% of each of the results from the lower category will be transferred and the two records merged. Results from the higher age category will take precedence and will always be used to calculate the average, regardless of whether or not these results are the top six highest. Results from the lower age category will only be included in the calculation if the player has less than six results in the higher age category.

Any player making a late withdrawal not supported by a medical certificate or failing to turn up for a tournament will receive zero points for the tournament which will count as one of their 6 best results for the rolling 12 month period and will be taken into account when dividing the points to obtain the ranking average. If a player commits one of these offences for a second time within a 12 month period, they will be warned , dropped in the rankings as deemed fit and may even be banned from the SRAM  Junior Circuit for a period of 12 months.

A player who has not participated in the Junior Circuit for a full 12 months from the finals day of the last event in which they competed will be removed from the ranking.

International :

Gold              : W 1000; RU 500; SF 300; QF 150; PQF 50

European SS : W  300; RU 150; SF 100; QF 50; PQF 25

European GP:  W 200; RU 125; SF 75; QF 40; PQF 20

European JO : W 100; RU 60; SF 35; QF 25

National :

Indian Nationals                                                 : W 300; RU 150; SF 100; QF 50; PQF 20

National SS Events                                            : W 150; RU 75; SF 50; QF 25; PQF 10

National GP Events                                            : W 100; RU 60; SF 35; QF 20

National JO Events                                            :  W  80; RU 40; SF 20 ; QF 10

Once the Rankings are established, the players on the list will be encouraged to play matches once every month. The challenges will be determined by the SRAM.

1. These challenge matches will aid in match practice
2. The results of these challenge matches will not change the rankings
3. In the event that a player has been indisposed/injured for a long period of time, the SRAM may use the result of these matches to aid them in seeding/selection of State teams as well.
4. Immediately after accounting for the points of the Little Masters, the shortlist of players will be made for the Inter State Team.
5. Thereafter these players may be required to play round robin matches or specifically designated challenge matches to determine the order that they will play in.

Some players who are crossing over to a new age category shortly have been put in the higher category already. E.g Aditya Jagtap will be 15 in May’07

All players desirous of being on the rankings please send a mail to this address with your last three tournament results and your D.O.B.

NOTE : PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE RANKINGS ARE PROVISIONAL AND THIS IS THE START OF THE PROCESS TO ESTABLISH A FIRM CRITERIA. ANY IDEAS/FEEDBACK CAN BE MAILED.

Initial rankings are for U15 and U19 only because these are the categories for the Inter State. Rankings for other age groups will be introduced gradually.

Decision of the SRAM on all matters related to Rankings will be final.

MAHARASHTRA RANKINGS

THE SRAM WILL CONDUCT A TOURNAMENT FROM 21-25 MAY 2007  TO DETERMINE THE TOP 16 PLAYERS IN MAHARASHTRA. TO BEGIN WITH THIS WILL ONLY BE FOR THE OPEN CATGORY AND SHORTLY WE WILL BE HAVING THIS FOR THE JUNIORS AS WELL.

THE FOLLOWING PLAYERS HAVE BEEN SHORTLISTED FOR THE TOP 16 EVENT. KINDLY CONFIRM WHETHER YOU ARE AVAILABLE TO PLAY THE EVENT BY REPLYING TO THE FOLLOWING E-MAIL ID BEFORE 10 MAY 2007. NO RESPONSE WOULD MEAN THAT YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED AND YOU WOULD NOT BE IN THE DRAW.
