The Top seeded duo from Khar Gymkhana Manish Chotrani and Vikram Malhotra bagged the 1st Mumbai Open Doubles Squash Championship at the Khar Gymkhana Courts. In a keenly contested final lasting 112 minutes, Manish and Vikram overcame the strong challenge from the CCI pair, Sahil and Rushabh Vora to win 15-12, 10-15, 15-7, 15-12 in four games. The Marathon match tested the players physical as well as mental endurance levels to the limit. The Squash played was of the highest quality with both teams running neck to neck for the points and shared the first two games one a piece. The third game saw the CCI pair slip a little and the Khar Gymkhana duo capitalized by finishing of the game quickly. The fourth game had Manish and Vikram trailing throughout but they hung on tenaciously and managed to level the score at 12 points each with some great retrieving and excellent strokeplay. Here on, it was a battle of nerves and the Khar Gymkhana duo managed to ward of the spirited effort of the CCI pair and wrapped up the match 15-12. Visibly tired but smiling Manish and Vikram took home prize money of Rs. 20,000/- and beautiful crystal trophies while the runners up received Rs. 12,000/- and crystal trophies.
