Third title in row for Pawar

Chandrakant Pawar beat Gopi Mohite in an exciting and well contested final to win the professionals event of the S.K. Pro and doubles squash tournament at the Khar Gymkhana today. 

The experienced professionals matched each other in stroke and courtcraft but Pawar’s greater fitness told in the end.

This was Pawar’s third title in a row. He had won earlier at the Otters and Willingdon, Pawar won 17-16, 13-15, 16-9, 15-5.

The doubles title was claimed by Arif Paul and Vicky Singh who beat Niraj Shirgaokar and Manan Shah, 15-11, 6-15, 15-5. 

Paul ran himself to a standstill during the final which was replete with fast and hectic rallies.Though stocky Shah moved well and hit some stunning shots there was  lot obstruction. The all out effort of Paul decided the outcome. 

Manu Dadlani, the gymkhana president, gave away the prizes. The state team was felicitated. Arif Paul and Akhil Behl who did well in the Asian junior circuit were felicitated by the Indian Squash Professionals. The ISP announced a donation of Rs.5,000 for medical expenses for Khar professional Nandan. 

S K Pro squash

The Indian Squash Professionals are organizing the S K Pro and Doubles Squash tournament to be held at the Khar Gymkhana from January 11-4. 

The tournament will offer a total of Rs.50,000 as prize money, sponsored by Kamal Jadhwani Group of Companies. 

The tournament to be played on the American scoring system of 15 points per game best-of-five matches, has drawn National stars such as Akhil Behl, Arif Paul, Meharwan Daruwala and Niraj Shirgaokar.

 

Verma Causes Upset

Sunil Verma stunned forth seed Prakash Yelve 11-15, 10-15, 15-11, 15-9, 15-9 to enter the semi finals of the professionals event of S. K. Pro and doubles squash tournament at the Khar Gymkhana. 

There were two engrossing doubles matches. Arif Paul and Vicky Singh edged Manish Chotrani and Kramveer 10-15, 15-6, 12-15, 17-15, 15-7 and Avinash Bhavnani and Abhijit Kukreja came from two games down to oust Kaizad Bharucha and Z. Pastika 6-15, 14-17, 17-16, 17-15, 15-5.
