Daniel Ezra triumphs in Top 16 squash

DANIEL Ezra won the Men’s Top 16 squash tournament when he defeated Vineet Asthana in straight games on Sunday.

Ezra won 9-5, 9-4, 9-1 to walk away with the first prize of Rs.10,000. Vineet had to be content with Rs.7,000 for his second-place finish.

Vineet put up some fight in the first game. But once he lost it in 14 minutes, all resistance collapsed. Ezra won the next two games with relative ease to pocket the match in 36 minutes.

Rishad Billimoria, who injured himself in the semi finals against Vineet, gave a walkover  to Vinay Asthana in the match for the third place. Both the players earned Rs.5,000 and Rs3,000 respectively.

Men’s top 16 event

The Maharashtra Squash Professionals under the auspices of SRAM, will be organizing the Men’s Top 16 Event on invitation basis from July 27 to 30, 1995at Khar Gymkhana.

The prize money for the tournament will be Rs.10,000, Rs.7,000, Rs.5,000 and Rs.3,000, besides gifts for all the participants.

The draw for the tournament will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 1995 at the Khar Gymkhana at 6.00p.m.

Player are requested to contact Chandrakant S Pawar, president of Maharashtra Squash  Professionals or Cyrus Poncha before July 24, at the Otters Club.

The tournament is sponsored by Kanakia and Monarch Builders.

Vineet Asthana, Danierl Ezra, Rishad Billimoria win 

In the quarter finals of the Kanakia & Monarch Builders Men’s Invitation – Top 16 Even Vineet Asthana won in straight games beating his arch rival Jehangir Pandole 9-1, 9-3, 9-2 (3-0)

In the other quarter finals, Daniel Ezra beat Darius Surti 9-0, 9-1, 9-1, (3-0) and Rishad Billimoria beat Manish Chotrani 9-2, 9-1, 9-3 (3-0)

At the time of going to the press, Arif Paul was playing against Vinay Asthana.

Khar Gym wins 

Khar Gym won the finals of the Kanakia & Monarch Builders Men’s Invitation Top 16 Event by beating Otter’s ‘A’ team 3-2.  The third place went to Otter’s ‘B’ team.  The 4th place went to Leela’s.  Khar Gym won a whopping 10,000, Otter’s ‘A’ 7000 Otter’s ‘B’ 5000.

Dathel Ezra wins

Daniel Ezra won the men top-16 event by beating Vineet Ashthana 9-5, 9-4, 9-1 in 36 mts.  The 1st game was very close.  Both players trying to get an upper-hand.  Finally Ezra winning 9-5 in 14 mts.  The 2nd and 3rd games were one-sided: Ezra winning 9-4, 9-5 for the 3rd and 4th place.

Rishad Billimoria gave a walkover as he injured his shoulder in the previous match with Vineet Asthana and hence Vinay Asthana finishing third.

 

One-sided matches

Vineet Asthana, Daniel Ezra and Rishad Billimoria entered the semi-finals without much ado in the Invitation Men’s Top 16 squash tournament, organised by Maharashtra Squash Professionals, at Khar Gymkhana, here on Friday.

In the quarter-finals, Asthana beat Jehangir Pandole 9-1, 9-3,9-2, Daniel Ezra blitzed Darius Surti 9-0, 9-1, 9-3.  The fourth quarter-final will be played between Arif Paul and Vinay Asthana.
