The
final day of the Complan Junior squash open at the Juhu Vile Parle
Gymkhana under the auspices of Squash Racquets of Federation of India abd
Squash Racquets Association of Maharashtra started with a bang.
Delhi's Ravi Dixit surprised top seed
Ramit Tandon 9-1,3-9,9-4,9-0 in the boys under-11 final. Dixit started
squash just a year ago and had also reached the final of the Little
Masters tournament held this year.
Dixit was the toast of the crowd during
the presentation ceremony that was chaired by SRAM president Khalid A-H
Ansari. He got the biggest applause when he was awarded the best player of
the tournament. With the two awards, Dixit bagged a total cash prize of
Rs.17,000.
In the other upset of the day, another
Delhi player made a mark. Naresh Kumar beat top seed Sandeep Jhangra in
the best match of the day. After losing the first two games, Kumar turned
the tables on Jhangra to win 5-9, 3-9, 9-4, 9-7. Kumar pocketed Rs.20,000
and received another Rs.5,000 when he was also chosen player of the
tournament.
