ranking: 1
Ritwik Bhattacharya, the top Indian men’s squash player
and the only player currently playing on the PSA Tour, has in the
past year demolished all local competition.
Having
lost his National title to Manish Chotrani in 1999, Ritwik had three
to four victories over Chotrani in 2000 to dispel all doubts about
his domination in the game of squash.
He
defeated Chotrani in the CCI Open and then also in the Inter-State, before
exacting revenge in the final of the Nationals.
Bhattacharya,
whose tremendous fitness and discipline on court makes him a pleasure to
watch, hopes to improve his current world ranking of 122 this year and
aims to make it to the top 50. |

In order to do so, he aims to shift his
base to London and train under Neil Harvey, which will enable him to give
out his optimum performance, as he will have the highest level of coaching
and world ranked training partners.
Some
of the highlights in Ritwik’s early squash career have been winning the
Bronze Medal for India in the Asian Juniors Squash Championships in
February 1997. A month prior to that he won the Chief Of Army Staffs
Commendation for excellence in Squash.
He
was also adjudged the best all-round sportsman in 1996-97, the award
presented to him by the President of India and in 1997 was selected the
Most Promising Sportsman of the year by the Delhi Sports Journalists
Association.
He
was the junior National champion in 1997 and 1998, before winning the
senior National title in 1998, at the age of 19.
Ritwik
is easliy the most accomplished Indian squash player in recent times as
the following lists of his achievements and the tournaments he has
