In 1995 her first year in squash at 14 years age, she made the finals of CCI under-19 event and also the Western India Inter School Under 16. Next year she concentrated on her ICSE exams but was back in the limelight on her return in 1997. She made it to the finals of the Under - 19 category of the Maharashtra State, Western India and the Little Masters. Deepali also stood out in the women’s category, reaching the semifinals of the CCI championship.

She was adopted by ISP in November 1997. She was given a playing membership and coaching at The Leela (courtesy Vivek Nair,V-C & M.D. THE LEELA).

A powerful and robust player, Deepali more than makes up for her limited stroke play with immense strength and stamina while on court. Deepali, a swimmer and athlete in her junior years, took to squash like a duck to water and soon was winning every tournament in the city of Mumbai in her age groups.

It was only Mekhala Subedar who could counter the power game of Deepali, though the younger Deepali stretched Mekhala to the hilt on a couple of occasions.

Improving with every outing, Deepali holds promise to take over the mantle of the top women’s squash player from Mekhala, but she will have to content with the upcoming Joshna Chinappa on every step of her way.
